Rylands Cotton Mill. The wasteland at the front of mill was turned into Mesnes Park. When the mill shut, it was taken over by a mail order company. Its now a major site of Wigan Technical College renamed as the Pagefield Building.
Rylands Weaving Room
Eighteenth-century weavers cottage. Wigan Lane.
Bottom floor of building which was partly underground contained the weaving shop. Conditions in the weaving shop had to be kept damp for the sake of the yarn.
The dorma weaving room 1986. It was the last weaving shed in wigan. Produced 4.5 million metres of cotton a year. Like all of the cotton industry it has closed due to cheap imports.
